Bob has drawn since childhood, learning informally from his father.  He has painted in oils, acrylics, and encaustics, often incorporating collage.  He has taken numerous workshops from established artists, including Robert Burridge and Lynn Kishiyama locally.  He has painted mostly landscapes, seascapes, and abstracts.  His work has been exhibited in galleries and art centers up and down the Pacific coast, and is held in private collections from Nice, France to Tokyo, Japan.

ROBERT DODGE

My concern as a painter is not to create a literal record, but to trigger a visceral reaction…a feeling of presence.  Modern physics seems to be telling us that the universe is made up not of things, but of a sort of omnipresent potential that manifests itself spontaneously in myriad ways. Whether I am working from an external subject or imagination, I try to let this potential - this presence - manifest itself in my work.  When working from nature, I try not to think about what I see.  When I work non-objectively, I let the medium steer the process.
